It all began in 1961 with one man and a dream!

The structure which houses Travelers Rest dates back to the late 1880's when it was a popular stop along the stagecoach route to New York City. In 1961, with only three hundred dollars to his name,  Gerhardt Langner purchased the property to open his own restaurant. Over the years, Mr. Langner toiled building elaborate stonework and gardens on the outside. He utilized his carpentry skills to create magnificent wood paneled walls on the inside and to expand the original building with an extensive addition in 1974.

Gerhardt’s son Gary, and his wife, Tina, now manage the restaurant along with their son Gary Jr. who represents the third Langner generation. Today they continue Gerhardt’s commitment to quality food and service that begun more than five decades ago.
